Your photo is processed on our side first — straightened, cropped and compressed — and very long receipts are cut into sections. The prepared image then goes to a vision-capable AI model, which returns the line items, prices, currency and shop name as structured data rather than plain text.
Models get things wrong, so nothing the AI returns is taken on trust. Prices are recalculated on our side using decimal arithmetic — never floating point, which is what causes totals that are a penny off — and every figure has to reconcile before you see it. Anything misread you can correct by hand before splitting.
The split itself is ordinary arithmetic, not AI. Items claimed by one person go to that person; shared items divide equally between whoever had them; tips and service charges are distributed in proportion to what each person ordered. Leftover pennies go to the largest share, so the total always matches the receipt exactly.
Receipts uploaded without an account are deleted after 7 days. Signed in, they stay in your history until you delete them. We don't sell your data, and advertisers never receive anything that identifies you.
